Although LED-illuminated LCD TVs are currently enjoying great popularity amongst customers, many home cinema enthusiasts continue to swear by the advantages of plasma displays. For this reason, LG Display, one of the world’s largest TV manufacturers, is continuing to focus on plasma models and has presented a new series of models with the title PK550.

The first models in this new series are the 50-inch 50PK550 and the 60-inch 60PK550. According to LG, both models are just five centimetres thick and are distinguished by their particularly slender frames. In addition, the panels used in the displays upscale image data to up to 600 Hz (Sub Field Drive) so that they can keep up with the advertising promises of newer LCD models. This is not really necessary, since plasma displays, because of their extremely fast response times, do not suffer from the problems LCD devices experience in displaying motion.

Furthermore, both models have the Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and can project videos and snapshots of your loved ones directly on the screen via their integrated USB ports. In the meantime, four HDMI connections can be found on the back of each model. In addition, LG Display has equipped the models with a light sensor, which adjusts the brightness of the screen to the conditions in the room as required. This not only improves the image quality, but also ensures frugal power consumption.

Although no precise launch date has been mentioned, both models from the new PK550 series should be available soon according to LG, at prices of almost 1,100.00 Euro and 2,450.00 Euro.
