As news portal DigiTimes reports, AU Optronics (AUO) Vice President Paul Peng expects an increasing price adjustment this year between LED TVs and TV sets with older illumination types. In January, price adjustments of up to six percent were observed – a trend that should continue this year.

Paul Peng has promised himself increased cost reduction in manufacturing through constant production optimisation. Whilst the production costs for LED models up to 19 inches are already equal to those for normal LCD models, the differences in costs for larger models are still much more substantial. However, this should change in the course of the year and bring about increased price wars amongst manufacturers.
Although AUO only expects to have a market share of ten percent for LED TVs in the first quarter of 2010, this is set to grow to an impressive 20 percent as soon a sales prices level out at a diffrence of 20 to 30 percent. Accordingly, LED-illuminated TV sets are highly likely to exceed the 30 million markt this year for sales and thus reach almost ten times the sales figure.
