Next, we carefully sounded out whether or not ASUS intends to enter the LCD market at the company’s CeBIT stand. Asus does intend to do so and thus, numerous new monitors were introduced to the market over a short period of time. Four product groups – Value (V), Mainstream (M), Premium (P) and Luxury (L) – should ensure that almost every customer find the right product.
ASUS values design in particular when it comes to LCDs because the aim to place ASUS as a premium brand is to the forefront of the marketing strategy – so said Mohammed Jaber, product manager of the company’s monitor line, in a PRAD interview. Two new LCDs with TN panels are expected to emerge shortly: the 22-inch PG221 and the 20-inch 4:3 LS201 LCD. ASUS would also like to enter the HD sector with a 24-inch LCD, probably in October.
ASUS 22-inch PG221 with webcam and subwoofer
Subwoofer, webcam, USB Hub, touchpad – the ASUS PG221 comes with plenty of extras, but is only going to cost 380,00 Euro.
The PG221, like the 19-inch PG191 that is currently on sale, comes with an integrated detachable subwoofer, webcam, glare optics and sensor button. In addition, the monitor features three USB inputs and a microphone input. The panel should allow for a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 and a response time of 2 ms.
As well as its smart look, the ASUS PG221 impressed us in particular with its unmissable sound quality and powerful, pulsating bass. When our query about the price was answered with "380,00 Euro RRP", we thought we had misheard. However the price was right, as Daniel Richter from Asus emphasised. Given its relatively low price, the PG221 should be a contender for the top ranking regarding price/performance.
The cylindrical subwoofer renders a rich sound quality, but can also be removed.
