REVIEW: Dell 2007WFP Part 5

The Dell 2007WFP works all but noiseless. During operation a very faint humming sound can only be heard if you put your ear to the rear side of the casing. The volume of this hum does not change with different brightness settings.

The integrated power supply unit of the monitor doesn't provide a power switch. In order to cut the display from power completely, one is going to have to pull the power plug.

According to the Dell, the power consumption of the 2007WFP amounts to a maximum of 55 Watts. In standby mode, the manufacturer states it to be less than 2 Watts. When turned off, the consumption is reported to be less than 1 Watt. We crosschecked the values stated by using a measuring device for power consumption.

Energy consumption

  Manufacturer Measured
55 W 44,6 W
< 2 W 1,0 W
< 1 W 0,9 W

The Dell 2007WFP offers a complete set of features and attests to very good fabrication quality, - all of this packed in an attractively designed case.

Connectors

The inputs of the Dell 2007WFP are housed within a recess at the back of the case where they are arranged in a way that allows for easy access. The display provides the following inputs: DVI-D (digital), D-Sub (analog), 4-port USB 2.0 hub, Composite Video and S-Video. The Composite Video and S-Video inputs are specialties in a sense, as only a handful of monitors provide these video connectors. Thereby, the Dell 2007WFP offers the same variety in video connectors as its predecessor model, the 2005FPW, does.

Inputs on the back of the Dell 2007WFP

On the back of the case, between the USB hub and the DVI-D input, one can find the power input for the optionally available Soundbar.

Two of the four USB ports can be found on the side of the case. While this does give easy access, cables or devices plugged into these ports will protrude from the bezel very visibly, however. Particularly if you rotate the display to portrait mode, it is advisable to make sure that there no longer are any devices plugged into the USB ports at the side. For USB keyboards or mice, we recommend using the two USB ports on the rear side of the case.

Controls and OSD

The silver labels on the round buttons remain well legible even with unfavorable ambient lighting. The control buttons bear a noticeable pressure point, but do resist with too much drag in our opinion. Operating the buttons becomes more convenient by handling the buttons with the thumb while holding the panel case from the back with the index finger exerting backpressure.

Some functions can be called up directly at the push of a button without having to bring up the OSD (On Screen Display) first. Using the button, one can toggle between the signal inputs D-Sub (analog), DVI-D (digital), S-Video and Composite Video. An illuminated indicator signalizes which one of the inputs is currently active: 1 = D-Sub, 2 = DVI-D, 3 = S-Video and 4 = Composite Video. The button respectively activates or deactivates the PiP or PbP mode (PiP = Picture in Picture, PbP = Splitscreen). The button starts up the OSD. When inside the OSD, the same button also calls up menus / submenus and activates menu items. The and button lets you navigate through the menu and adjust functions / parameters. The button is for turning the Dell 2007WFP on/off.

The following pictures and information should give you a general idea about the functions found in the OSD:

Starting the OSD brings up a menu bar which is separated into the following menu items: Exit, Brightness & Contrast (adjusting contrast is only possible in analog mode), Auto Adjust (this menu item is only available in analog mode), Input Source, Color Settings, Image Modes, Display Settings, Menu Settings, PIP Settings.
